The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has condemned the killing of 322 children and the injury of 609 others in Gaza over the past 10 days, following the resumption of Israeli airstrikes on March 18, 2025. The agency highlighted that the daily average exceeds 100 child victims, many of whom are internally displaced and living in tents or damaged homes.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell described the end of the ceasefire as plunging children into a “deadly spiral of violence”, emphasizing that the ceasefire had been their “safety net”. She noted that several attacks targeted hospitals, where children under medical care were struck by bombings.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the ongoing Israeli military offensive, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of 50,357 Palestinians, including 15,000 children. The destruction of civilian infrastructure and limited access to essential resources such as water, food, and medicine have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.
UNICEF has reiterated its urgent call for a permanent ceasefire and the protection of civilians, particularly children. Despite these appeals, Israeli military operations continue, including airstrikes and ground assaults in densely populated areas. The international community has yet to halt the aggression, leaving Gaza in a state of unprecedented humanitarian emergency.
